Tray of Tumbled Stones/Crystals

Crystals, Rocks, Minerals?

Although the spiritual community uses these words interchangeably, they do have geological definitions! I won’t go into too much detail here, but will instead provide a simple gist of the definitions!

Crystalline structures are defined as solid atomic structures that form geometric, repeating patterns in all directions.

Minerals are naturally-occurring, inorganic solids that have distinct atomic and chemical composition. These often form crystalline structures!

Crystals are actually just minerals with crystalline forms!
Rocks, on the other hand, are also made up of minerals, but not in any particular arrangement. They’re aggregates of various minerals!

In other words, Quartz and Fluorite are easy examples of crystals, but Jasper would be more accurately-classified as a rock. To spice things up, Obsidian, a naturally-occurring volcanic glass, is neither a rock nor a crystal!
